Jerry has been involved in the equestrian world for most of his life. As a teenager he rode jumpers before attending SUNY at Morrisville and Findlay Universities. Following graduation his attention turned to cutting horses and he worked for Grady Duncan for a number of years. Introduced to the sport of reining while attending Findlay, Coleman decided to learn more about it. He worked for Dutch Chapman form 1995 to 1999. During this time Coleman was the 1998 NRHA Limited Open reserve world champion aboard his own Celtic Brigade. Jerry Coleman and Startimes Last owned by Duane Hicks

In 2000 he took advantage of an opportunity to train horses in Germany and learned a great deal from his international experience. When Jerry returned to the United States, he established Jerry Coleman Performance Horses and has been operating out of Milnes Quarter Horses since 2001.

Since stepping out on his own, Jerry has consistently been in the winners circle in Category 1 & 2 events. He won the 2002 All American Quarter Horse Congress Limited Open Futurity in 2002 aboard Tommy Milnes’ Brennas Red Pine Jac and won the first go of the Intermediate Open futurity. This duo also claimed the Eastern Pennsylvania Reining Horse Association (EPRHA) Open Futurity championship. Hollywood Macho Jax was another 2002 winner with Coleman in the saddle. Together they won the Don Loughrey Memorial Futurity in Northampton, MA, the Florida Reining Horse Association futurity reserve champions in the Open and Intermediate Open divisions. In addition, Jerry qualified Doc Olena Chic for the 2002 USET Futures finals at the USET Festival of Champions in Gladstone, NJ.

The 2004 show season offered additional highlights as he was the Open and Intermediate Open futurity reserve champion aboard Eight Six Cheers in Northampton, MA before claiming the AQHA Junior Reining reserve championship at the All American Quarter Horse Congress on another Milnes Quarter Horses raised and trained horse, Sugarmans Kid.

It was hard to miss Jerry in 2005, as he was showing and winning almost anywhere there was a reining. He finished the year in the Intermediate Open Top Ten standings aboard two good mares. Rock N Roll Olena and Paddys Irish Heart were both multiple bronze trophy winners throughout the show season. Although he had multiple futurity horses in 2005, his big winner was Coltrane Melody, owned by Milnes Quarter Horses. Together they won the $5000 Open, $1000 Intermediate Open and $1000 Limited Open futurities at the The Big Event held in Port Jervis, NY.

2006 was another great year for Jerry on multiple horses.  He showed Missin My Socks owned by Gary and Ann Ramis to many Open class wins and the reserve championship at the Blainville, QC Derby.  Also at the Blainville, QC show Jerry and Startimes Last owned by Duane Hicks were Reserve Champions in the Ontario Born, Bred or Owned Futurity.  Friday Night Shiner owned by Bob Santagata was another big winner taking the Championship at the EPRHA Futurity as well as the ABI Futurity Intermediate Open Championship. 

Jerry continued his winning ways in 2007 aboard Friday Night Shiner taking both the Open and Intermediate Open Derby Championship at the Firecracker Classic.  The pair also teamed up to take the Reserve Championship in the Intermediate Open in Clemson, SC.  July found Jerry back in Canada to win the Futurity in Blainville, QC aboard KR Great Tejon owned by Mike Morganti. 

Currently Jerry has lifetime earnings of over $104,000 and is looking forward to the 2008 show season.
